The Vivo Y21 is the phone people land on when the brief is simple: a big battery, a screen that is comfortable to read on, and a price that does not need financing. It launched in Pakistan in November 2021 and has stayed in circulation far longer than most budget handsets of its generation, mainly because the 5000mAh cell and the 4G-only, no-frills spec sheet keep it cheap to build and cheap to repair.
PricingWhat it costs by variant
| 4GB + 64GB | Rs 59,699 |
|---|---|
| 4GB + 128GB | Rs 62,999 — limited availability |
| Used / open box | Rs 24,000 – 32,000 by condition |
Prices move week to week, and the gap between an official PTA-approved unit and a non-PTA import can be substantial. A non-PTA handset stops connecting to local networks once the trial window closes, unless the device is registered and the tax is paid — so the sticker saving rarely survives contact with DIRBS. Buy PTA approved unless you already know what you are taking on.

In the handDesign and display
The Y21 uses a flat plastic back with a light textured finish that resists fingerprints better than the glossy panels Vivo used on earlier Y-series phones. At 182g and 8mm thick it is one of the lighter 5000mAh handsets you can buy, which matters more than it sounds when you are holding a phone for two hours at a stretch.
The screen is the clearest concession to the price. It is a 6.51-inch HD+ IPS panel at 60Hz, so text is noticeably softer than on a 1080p display and scrolling lacks the fluidity of a 90Hz screen. In exchange it is easy on the battery and perfectly usable outdoors at full brightness. If you mostly read, message and watch video, you will not feel short-changed. If you are coming from a 1080p phone, you will.
Day to dayPerformance
The Helio P35 is an entry-level chip on a 12nm process, paired here with 4GB of RAM. WhatsApp, browsing, YouTube, banking apps and light multitasking run without complaint. Heavier games run only at reduced settings — PUBG Mobile and similar titles are playable at low graphics, not enjoyable at high. Apps reload from scratch once you keep more than a handful resident in memory, which is the usual 4GB experience.
Funtouch OS 11.1 on Android 11 is the other consideration. It is well past its update window, so you are buying the software you see today with no expectation of a major Android upgrade. Normal for the bracket, but worth stating plainly.
PhotographyCamera
A 13MP main sensor and a 2MP macro make up the rear setup, with an 8MP camera in the notch. Daylight shots are respectable — colours lean slightly warm, detail holds up on a phone screen, and the shutter is quick enough for casual use. Low light is where the sensor runs out of road: shots get noisy, and night mode brightens the frame more than it rescues detail. The macro camera pads the spec sheet more than it earns its place.
Video tops out at 1080p/30fps with no stabilisation, so handheld clips need a steady grip.
The strong suitBattery life
A 5000mAh cell driving a 60Hz HD+ display and a low-power chipset comfortably clears a full day, and gets close to two on lighter use. The 18W charger refills it in a little under two hours. The port is micro-USB rather than USB-C, which is the single most dated thing about the phone — factor in that your other cables will not fit.
VerdictShould you buy it?

Skip it if

- You want a sharp 1080p or high-refresh screen
- You shoot a lot of photos after dark
- You have already moved to USB-C everywhere
Cross-shopAlternatives worth comparing
- Vivo Y22The direct successor — 50MP main camera, brighter display.
- Vivo Y33s8GB RAM and 128GB storage for real multitasking headroom.
- Vivo Y3544W charging and a 1080p screen if you can stretch.
- Samsung Galaxy A32AMOLED panel and longer software support, at a higher price.
- Oppo A54Closest match on paper — the 90Hz display is the tiebreaker.
